Sindh Government Approves 17.5% Increase in Pension for Civil Pensioners

Karachi, July 11, 2023 – In a move to provide relief to retired civil servants, the Sindh government has officially sanctioned a 17.5 percent increase in net pension, effective from July 1, 2023. This increase will apply to all civil pensioners across the province until further notice.

The announcement, made on Monday through an official communication, stated that the 17.5 percent raise in pension would also be applicable to individuals retiring on or after July 1, 2023. The term “Net Pension” refers to the pension amount being drawn minus the Medical Allowance.

Moreover, the increase in pension will be extended to family pensions granted under the Pension-cum-Gratuity Scheme 1954 and the Liberalized Pension Rules 1977. It will also be applicable to pensions sanctioned under the Central Civil Services (Extra Ordinary Pension) Rules, as well as the Compassionate Allowance under CSR-353.

If the gross pension sanctioned by the Sindh government is shared with any other government according to the rules outlined in Part-IV of Appendix III to the Accounts Code, Volume-1, the increase in pension will be divided proportionately between the federal government and the respective government concerned.

However, the sanctioned increase in pension will not be applicable to the Special Additional Pension provided in lieu of pre-retirement Orderly Allowance.

In a gesture of inclusivity, the enhanced pension benefits will also be granted to civil pensioners of the Sindh government residing abroad, excluding those residing in India and Bangladesh. This provision applies to individuals who retired on or after August 15, 1947, and are neither entitled to nor receiving pension increases under the British Government’s Pension (Increase) Acts. The payment will be made at the applicable exchange rate.

The decision to increase pensions will undoubtedly alleviate financial burdens and improve the quality of life for retired civil servants in Sindh. The government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of its pensioners is commendable, as this measure aims to provide much-needed support during their post-employment years.
