KARACHI, August 31, 2025 – The Sindh government has placed all relevant departments on high alert to deal with any potential flood emergency across the province.

Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport & Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, stated that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had directed officials to remain fully mobilized to mitigate risks and ensure swift response measures.

Addressing a press conference at the Sindh Secretariat after inspecting the Provincial Rain & Flood Emergency Monitoring Cell, Memon emphasized that preparations were at the highest level. The monitoring cell, established to oversee the evolving flood situation, will operate round the clock to coordinate response efforts.

Cabinet members, provincial assembly lawmakers, and district administrations are actively monitoring field operations. Government spokespersons Mustafa Baloch, Wahid Halipota, and Tahseen Abidi will be stationed at the monitoring cell to provide continuous updates, with official reports released every three hours.

Memon highlighted that preliminary assessments suggest that 1.65 million people, 1,651 villages, and 167 union councils may be impacted by the flood threat. Around 273,000 families could face displacement, prompting authorities to mobilize 192 rescue boats and mobile health units.

“The Sindh government is working under the direct supervision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Chief Minister. District administrations are ensuring evacuation of people from Katcha areas, while relief camps and livestock shelters are fully functional,” Memon said.

He added that 300 camps for livestock have been established, although most residents prefer to stay with relatives rather than in relief camps. The Punjab government has also extended cooperation by providing emergency kits to assist Sindh in tackling the flood situation.

Memon clarified that while there is no immediate emergency or shortage of funds, the government remains fully prepared to face any challenge. He urged media outlets to rely on official updates from the control room and avoid speculation that may create panic.

Officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the Environment Department, and senior spokespersons were also present during the briefing.
