KARACHI, May 6, 2026 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a fresh heatwave alert for Sindh, warning that temperatures in several districts may rise as high as 49°C between May 7 and May 11.

According to the advisory, central and upper Sindh will be most affected, with extreme heat conditions expected in districts including Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur. Temperatures in these areas are forecast to remain between 47°C and 49°C during the peak heatwave period.

The PMD said the ongoing weather system will also contribute to widespread hot and dry conditions across most plain areas of the country from May 6 to 12. Daytime temperatures in central and southern regions are expected to remain 2°C to 6°C above normal seasonal averages.

Southern Punjab, Sindh, and parts of Balochistan are likely to remain among the worst-affected regions, with persistent intense heat during daytime hours and little immediate relief expected.

Authorities have advised the public, particularly children, women, and old-age individuals, to take precautionary measures, avoid outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours, and maintain adequate hydration.

Karachi has already experienced extreme conditions this week, recording its hottest day since 2018. The temperature surged past 44°C, reaching 44.1°C at the Old Airport Weather Station.

Local reports also indicated heat-related emergencies in the city amid rising temperatures.

The PMD said the heatwave conditions are likely to persist throughout the forecast period, urging citizens and local administrations to remain vigilant as the country continues to experience intensified weather patterns linked to seasonal climate variations.
