Karachi, October 12, 2025 – The Sindh government has announced the imposition of Section 144 across the province for one month, banning all forms of protests, rallies, demonstrations, and sit-ins in an effort to maintain peace and public safety.
The decision follows intelligence and security reports warning of possible disturbances in major cities, including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.
The move was taken on the recommendation of Sindh Inspector General of Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, who submitted a detailed report highlighting potential threats to law and order. Acting on these concerns, the provincial Home Department issued a notification enforcing an immediate ban on gatherings of more than five people in public spaces.
According to the notification, any violation of the order will be treated as a punishable offense under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and police officers have been empowered to take action without delay. The Sindh government clarified that the restrictions are preventive in nature and are aimed at avoiding any untoward incidents that could disrupt civic life or threaten security.
Officials stated that maintaining law and order remains a top priority for the provincial administration, particularly in the wake of recent demonstrations in other parts of the country that caused widespread disruption. The Sindh Home Department emphasized that emergency measures under Section 144 would help ensure public peace and protect citizens from possible unrest.
