Rain Karachi

Karachi, April 13, 2024 – With the impending threat of heavy rainfall looming over Karachi, Sindh, a vital province of Pakistan, has issued crucial instructions to authorities to remain vigilant and prepare for the impending downpour in the commercial and port city.

Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh, took proactive steps on Saturday by issuing directives in anticipation of heavy rainfall expected from April 13 midnight onwards, attributed to two approaching westerly systems.

A spokesperson revealed that CM Murad has instructed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), all town administrations, and the water board to ensure comprehensive arrangements for rain management within their respective domains. Furthermore, the CM has urged civic agencies to establish close coordination with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Additionally, the police and district administration have been tasked with providing necessary assistance to citizens during the anticipated rainfall.

In an advisory to the public, CM Murad emphasized the importance of safety, particularly advising against allowing children to venture outdoors during the forecasted torrential rains.

Weather analyst Jawad Memon shed light on the meteorological forecast, indicating that Karachi is bracing for rain accompanied by thunderstorms from April 13 to 15, attributed to the first approaching system. Memon projected light to moderate rainfall of up to 15 millimeters accompanied by gusty winds during this period. He also warned of the potential formation of thunderstorm clouds in suburban areas by the evening of April 13, with intermittent rainfall expected in Karachi and its outskirts until the morning of April 15.

Looking ahead, Memon outlined the arrival of a second westerly wave system slated to affect the southern regions of the country, including the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan, from April 17 onwards. Under this system, Karachi and its environs may experience further rainfall, with thunder cells potentially forming on April 17 in suburban areas. Subsequently, Karachi could witness rain and thunderstorms persisting on April 18 and 19.

The Meteorological Department also alerted that other regions of Sindh, such as Sukkur and Larkana, are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall in the upcoming days, underscoring the importance of preparedness and caution across the province.

As the threat of rainfall looms large over Karachi and surrounding areas, the instructions issued by Sindh authorities serve as a timely reminder for residents and authorities alike to remain vigilant and prepared for potential challenges posed by inclement weather conditions.
