Karachi, August 31, 2025 – The province of Sindh is bracing for what officials fear could be a “super flood,” with Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah personally overseeing precautionary measures as water levels rise alarmingly.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Indus River may witness an unprecedented flow of up to 1.1 million cusecs in the coming days.
During a briefing in Kashmore, Murad Ali Shah cautioned that if water levels cross the critical threshold of 900,000 to 1 million cusecs, vast stretches of low-lying kachcha areas could face complete submersion. He emphasized that the top priority must be to safeguard human lives, livestock, and essential infrastructure, including barrages, bridges, and embankments.
The Chief Minister confirmed that Sindh authorities have been instructed to coordinate closely with NDMA and district administrations. He revealed that Army units are on standby to assist in rescue operations, while NDMA has already dispatched 192 boats to bolster evacuation efforts.
Assuring residents that relief and rehabilitation measures are in place, Murad highlighted that displaced families will be provided housing under the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Additionally, farmers suffering crop losses will receive financial compensation to help restore livelihoods.
Appealing for public cooperation and calm, Murad reiterated that the Sindh government stands with its people and is fully mobilized to confront the looming disaster.
