Sindh Revenue Board raids posh club in DHA

KARACHI: Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) Thursday raided a posh club in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) for defaulting payment of sales tax.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the SRB said that it had taken action against a posh club in DHA for its consistent non-compliance of Sindh Sales Tax laws and rules.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 51 of the Sindh Sales Tax on Services Act, 2011, Officers of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) visited the premises of a posh Club located in DHA, Karachi and took into custody the relevant and important records and documents for further scrutiny.

The Club was a non-payer of the amounts of the Sindh Sales Tax (SST) due and was also a consistent non-filer of SST returns.

“Notices were issued by SRB for payment of the amounts of SST due and also for e-filing of the missing tax returns,” SRB said.

However, finding non-compliance on the part of the said Club, action was taken under the aforesaid provisions of the Act, 2011, and the relevant and important records, so recovered, are being examined by Officers of the SRB for assessment of tax liability and recovery of the dues so assessed and determined.

This activity is a part of SRB’s continuing efforts to crack down on the consistent non-compliant businesses in the hospitality and aesthetic sectors.
