Sindh to Introduce Security Featured Vehicle Registration Smart Card

Karachi – The Sindh government has announced its plans to launch a security featured vehicle registration smart card as part of its efforts to enhance security measures in vehicle registration.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah made the announcement during his budget speech on June 10, 2023, and allocated a substantial amount in the budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 to support this initiative.

The introduction of security featured number plates for 2, 3, and 4-wheeler vehicles was implemented during the previous financial year of 2022-23. A Government-to-Government (G2G) contract was signed with the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) to facilitate the supply of security featured number plates. As a result, these number plates have been issued, ensuring enhanced security and can be easily monitored at public places.

For the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24, the Sindh provincial government has allocated Rs. 2.23 billion for various initiatives related to vehicle registration security. Specifically, an amount of Rs. 776.765 million has been earmarked for the implementation of the Security Featured Vehicle Registration Smart Card, while Rs. 1.41 billion has been allocated for the Security Featured Retro Number Plates.

The Security Featured Vehicle Registration Smart Card aims to incorporate advanced security features into the vehicle registration process. This initiative intends to enhance the overall security and authenticity of vehicle registration documents while ensuring ease of use for vehicle owners and authorities alike.
