Six sixes storm: Kushal Bhurtel joins elite T20I club

Nepal opener scores 129 off 43 balls, powering team to 221-run win in Asian Games Qualifier

Nepal opener Kushal Bhurtel joined cricket’s most exclusive club on Sunday after hitting six sixes in a single over during a T20 International match, becoming only the sixth male player to achieve the feat in international cricket.

The explosive over came during Nepal’s Asian Games Qualifier match against China national cricket team at the Singapore National Cricket Ground. Bhurtel targeted left-arm spinner Chen Zhuo Yue in the ninth over, clearing the boundary on all six consecutive legal deliveries in a rare display of power-hitting.

With the feat, Bhurtel became only the second Nepali batter to achieve six sixes in an over in T20 Internationals, following teammate Dipendra Singh Airee, who reached the milestone in 2024.

He now joins an elite group of men’s T20I cricketers that includes India’s Yuvraj Singh, who first achieved the feat against England’s Stuart Broad during the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, as well as West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, Samoa’s Darius Visser, and Bulgaria’s Manan Bashir.

Bhurtel carried his momentum beyond the historic over, scoring a blistering 129 runs from just 43 deliveries. His innings powered Nepal national cricket team to a commanding total of 313 for 2 in 20 overs, overwhelming China’s bowling attack from the outset.

Nepal went on to secure a dominant 221-run victory, marking a strong start to their Asian Games Qualifier campaign at the Singapore venue.

The performance further strengthened Bhurtel’s reputation as one of Nepal’s most destructive T20 batters and drew global attention to the country’s growing presence in international cricket. The achievement adds another milestone to the format’s short but dramatic history, which began with such feats in the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007.
