Snoop Dogg explains Lightyear comments after uproar

Snoop Dogg has sparked lively debate across social media following his remarks about Disney and Pixar’s animated film Lightyear, which includes a same-sex couple.

The rapper initially admitted feeling “scared to go to the movies” when the scene appeared, especially because he was watching the film with his young grandson.

The 53-year-old star later addressed the issue on Instagram, stressing that his comments were not intended to offend the LGBTQ community. “All my gay friends know what’s up. They been calling me with love,” Snoop wrote under a Hollywood Unlocked post. “My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6-year-old. Teach me how to learn. I’m not perfect.”

Snoop explained that his reaction came from being caught off guard when his grandson began asking questions about how two women could have a child together. Speaking on the It’s Giving podcast earlier this month, the rapper recalled thinking, “I didn’t come in for this. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” adding that he struggled to respond in a way his grandson would understand.

The scene has been celebrated by some fans as a milestone for LGBTQ representation in family films. Screenwriter Lauren Gunderson, who contributed to early drafts, shared her pride in helping bring authentic and diverse family dynamics to the big screen.

Despite the backlash, Snoop has emphasized that his comments were never about hate, but rather about being unprepared for a conversation he didn’t expect to have during a movie outing.
