Islamabad, December 28, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather report predicting light snowfall in the picturesque regions of Murree and Galliyat on Friday, December 29, 2023.

The forecast also includes cloudy weather with light rain/drizzle (light snow over mountains) in several other scenic areas such as Gilgit, Kaghan, Naran, Skardu, Hunza, Chitral, Dir, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley on Friday evening/night and Saturday.

The Met office indicated that very cold and dry weather is anticipated in most tourist destinations from Sunday to Tuesday. Additionally, Ziarat is expected to experience very cold and dry weather from Friday to Tuesday, according to the PMD.

For Friday, December 29, 2023, the Met office forecasted mainly cold and dry weather across most parts of the country, with the northern regions and northern Balochistan experiencing very cold conditions. The northern areas and northern Balochistan are expected to become partly cloudy during the evening/night hours.

Dense fog and smog are likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, with similar conditions expected in the plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during the night and morning hours. Frost may occur at a few places in the Pothohar region and Kashmir during the morning.

The synoptic situation, as reported by the PMD, reveals that continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country.

On Thursday, December 28, 2023, the weather was characterized by mainly cold and dry conditions across the country, with very cold temperatures in the northern parts and northern Balochistan. Dense fog and smog persisted in the plain areas of Punjab, with a likelihood of similar conditions in the plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, with extremely cold conditions reported in northern Balochistan and the northern areas.

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded today include Skardu and Leh at -09°C, Kalam and Gilgit at -05°C, Kalat, Hunza, and Gupis at -04°C, and Astore, Ziarat, and Srinagar at -03°C.

As winter takes its grip on various parts of the country, residents and tourists are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated on the weather conditions, especially in regions where snowfall is expected.
