Sony has announced significant price increases for its PlayStation gaming consoles across major global markets, marking one of the largest adjustments the company has made to its gaming hardware in recent years.

The price hikes affect the entire PlayStation lineup, including the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal.

According to an official blog post from Sony, the company attributed the decision to ongoing pressures in the global economic environment. Rising operational costs, currency fluctuations, and other economic challenges have pushed the company to revise its pricing strategy across multiple regions.

In the United States, the PlayStation 5 will now retail for $649.99, reflecting a $100 increase from its previous price. The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition has also received a price adjustment and will now cost $599.99. Meanwhile, the more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro will be available for $899.99. Sony’s handheld streaming device, the PlayStation Portal, will now retail for $249.99 in the US market.

The price changes are not limited to the United States. In the United Kingdom, the PlayStation 5 will be priced at £569.99, while the Digital Edition will cost £519.99. The PlayStation 5 Pro will retail for £789.99, and the PlayStation Portal will be available for £219.99.

Across Europe, the PlayStation 5 will now sell for €649.99, while the Digital Edition will be priced at €599.99. The PlayStation 5 Pro will cost €899.99, and the PlayStation Portal will retail for €249.99.

Japanese customers will also see higher prices. In Japan, the PlayStation 5 will cost ¥97,980, while the Digital Edition will be priced at ¥89,980. The PlayStation 5 Pro will retail for ¥137,980, and the PlayStation Portal will cost ¥39,980.

Sony confirmed that the new prices will officially take effect starting April 2, 2026. This marks another instance of the company adjusting console prices due to economic conditions, following similar increases announced in 2022 and again last year.

Despite the higher prices, Sony continues to maintain strong demand for its PlayStation hardware worldwide, driven by a growing library of games and continued interest in next-generation gaming experiences.
