Sophie Turner has opened up about her journey after Game of Thrones, the HBO hit series that made her a household name. Turner, who portrayed Sansa Stark, eldest daughter of Sean Bean’s Eddard Stark, reflected on how the role shaped her early acting career and the unique challenges of growing up in the spotlight.
In a candid interview with The Guardian, the mother of two described how the show served as a “formative training ground” for her, even if looking back on her early performances now feels awkward.
“I learned how to act on that set, and now I’m thinking: that’s not how to do it. That’s not what I do these days,” Turner admitted.
Growing up on screen: a unique challenge
Turner also spoke about the vulnerabilities of acting from a young age, especially knowing that every performance is permanently recorded and broadcast to the world.
“It’s very embarrassing. Imagine if you were learning to sing, and all your lessons had been filmed and broadcast. It’s just an uncomfortable experience,” she said.
She added that imposter syndrome remains a part of her life, noting, “I think the imposter syndrome remains. But I don’t think there’s any actor who doesn’t have that.”
Motherhood and career pause
Sophie Turner shares daughters Willa (5) and Delphine (3) with her ex-husband, musician Joe Jonas. The actress revealed that becoming a mother temporarily stalled her acting career, allowing her to focus on raising her children while navigating the entertainment industry.
Turner’s reflections provide fans with a rare glimpse into how child stardom, early career pressures, and motherhood have influenced both her professional growth and personal life.
Her story highlights the balance between fame, self-discovery, and family, showing that even Emmy-nominated stars face challenges of growth and vulnerability off-screen.
