South Africa Bowler Ruled Out of Third ODI Against Pakistan

The South African cricket team faces another setback in their ongoing ODI series against Pakistan as fast bowler Ottneil Baartman has been ruled out of the third match due to a right knee injury.

This marks the latest addition to the Proteas’ growing list of injuries that have plagued their bowling lineup throughout the summer.

Baartman, who made his ODI debut earlier in the series, reported discomfort in his knee during his bowling run-up before the second ODI.

Although he was not part of the playing XI for that game, the injury has now sidelined him entirely, forcing the team to adjust their plans. In his place, Corbin Bosch, a promising young pacer recently called up to the Test squad, has been added to the ODI lineup.

Bosch, who is also being considered for a potential Test debut in the upcoming Boxing Day match, now has a chance to prove himself in the limited-overs format.

The Proteas’ injury concerns extend beyond Baartman. All-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who sustained a finger injury during the first Test against Sri Lanka, remains in recovery.

Although Mulder has resumed light training, his availability for the first Test remains uncertain, leaving South Africa with limited options for their bowling attack.

The absence of experienced players has opened doors for younger talents. Kwena Maphaka, an 18-year-old fast bowler, made a notable impression during his ODI debut in the second match of the series. With the Test series looming, Maphaka’s performance could earn him further opportunities to showcase his skills.

Despite losing the ODI series to Pakistan, South Africa will aim to regain some momentum in the final match scheduled for Sunday.

The third ODI, which also serves as the celebrated Pink Day at Wanderers Stadium, holds significant importance for the Proteas as it is their last 50-over game before next year’s ICC Champions Trophy.

Injuries have tested the depth of South Africa’s squad, but the team remains focused on building a competitive side for upcoming international tournaments.

The third ODI offers not only a chance to end the series on a high note but also an opportunity for emerging players to stake their claim in the national setup.
