Spotify has officially launched a new feature called Page Match, turning a previously rumored tool into a powerful way to sync reading and listening progress across formats.
The feature allows users to seamlessly move between audiobooks, e-books, and physical books without losing their place, making it easier than ever to switch how they consume content.
Page Match works by using your smartphone’s camera to identify the exact page you’re on. To sync reading progress with an audiobook, users simply open the audiobook in Spotify, tap the Page Match button, select Scan to listen, and grant camera access. From there, you scan the page you’re currently reading—whether it’s from a physical book or an e-book. Spotify then matches that page to the corresponding moment in the audiobook and gives two options: Play from here or Save for later.
The feature also works in reverse for users who want to switch from listening back to reading. By opening the audiobook in Spotify, tapping Page Match, and selecting Scan to read, users can scan any page in their book. Spotify then calculates where the listener left off and guides them to the correct section, instructing whether to flip forward or backward to resume reading at the exact passage.
Spotify says Page Match will be available to audiobook listeners on both iOS and Android by the end of this month. At launch, the feature will support most English-language audiobook titles, with wider availability expected over time.
Alongside Page Match, Spotify also announced a new way to buy physical books directly through its app. Users in the United States and the United Kingdom will be able to purchase physical books via a partnership with Bookshop.org, an organization that supports independent bookstores. This move strengthens Spotify’s push into the audiobook and reading ecosystem while also backing local bookshops.
With Page Match, Spotify is aiming to remove friction between reading and listening, offering a more flexible and connected experience for book lovers who switch between formats throughout the day.
