Spotify Premium Prices Increase Again in US From February

Spotify has announced another price hike for its Premium subscription plans in the United States, with new rates set to take effect from subscribers’ February billing dates.

The latest increase also applies to select European markets, including Estonia and Latvia, marking yet another adjustment in the music streaming giant’s pricing strategy.

Under the updated pricing, Spotify Premium Individual will now cost $12.99 per month, up from the previous $11.99. While the $1 increase may seem minor on its own, it adds to a growing trend of incremental subscription price hikes across major digital services.

Spotify’s other plans are also seeing notable increases. The Premium Duo plan will rise to $18.99 per month, up from $16.99, while the Premium Family plan will now cost $21.99, compared to the earlier $19.99. Meanwhile, the Student plan is increasing by $1, moving from $5.99 to $6.99 per month.

Affected subscribers will receive an official notification from Spotify explaining the revised pricing and the date it will apply to their accounts. The company states that these “occasional updates to pricing” are intended to better reflect the value Spotify delivers to users, while also supporting continued improvements to the platform.

According to Spotify, the higher fees will help it maintain and enhance the overall listening experience, invest in new features, and support the broader music ecosystem.

The company also suggests that pricing changes help it benefit artists and creators, although critics often point out that subscription increases do not directly translate into higher payouts for musicians.

The latest increase may frustrate long-time users, especially as many consumers are already facing higher costs across multiple streaming services, including video, music, and cloud subscriptions. While an extra dollar or two per month may not feel significant individually, the cumulative effect of repeated increases can be hard to ignore.

Despite the price hike, Spotify remains the world’s largest music streaming platform, offering an extensive music library, podcasts, audiobooks in select markets, and features such as offline listening and personalized playlists. Whether the added cost will impact subscriber growth in the US remains to be seen, but for now, Premium users will need to budget a little more to keep their playlists uninterrupted.
