Spotify will bring audiobooks to more than 180 markets by the end of 2026, expanding access to hundreds of thousands of titles.
Spotify is significantly expanding its audiobooks service, announcing plans to make the feature available in more than 180 markets by the end of 2026.
Audiobooks are currently available on Spotify in 22 markets. The expansion will give the platform’s 750 million users worldwide the option to stream or purchase audiobooks, with access to more than 350,000 titles across over 120 languages.
The company said the expansion will also introduce new audiobook catalogues in languages including Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Polish.
Spotify will offer audiobooks through three main routes in the new markets: titles included with eligible Premium plans, the Audiobooks+ service and direct audiobook purchases. The company also said its partnerships with authors will remain non-exclusive.
Audiobooks+ expands access
Spotify is also expanding Audiobooks+ to additional users. From November, Student plan subscribers in Ireland, Belgium, Austria and Finland will be able to purchase additional listening hours through the service.
Audiobooks+ currently has more than one million subscribers and has generated more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue, according to Spotify.
The company is also improving how users switch between physical or electronic books and audiobooks.
Spotify improves Page Match
Spotify introduced its Page Match feature in February, allowing readers to move between print or e-book versions and their audiobook without losing their place. More than one million readers have used the feature so far.
An upcoming update will add support for page numbers. Spotify said users will be able to scan a book’s ISBN barcode and use page numbers to locate their position in the audiobook or digital version.
The expansion marks a major step in Spotify’s push into digital books, extending its audiobook offering well beyond its current 22 markets.
The company has also published a map showing the markets where audiobooks are expected to be available by the end of 2026.
