Samsung has started bringing its Android 17-based One UI 9 update to more older flagship Galaxy devices.
Samsung has started rolling out the stable One UI 9 update based on Android 17 to the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6.
The rollout began in South Korea, Samsung’s home market, following the company’s previous One UI 9 releases. The update is expected to expand to additional countries and regions in the coming days and weeks.
For Galaxy S24 series users who participated in the One UI 9 beta programme, the update is approximately 500MB. Those moving directly from One UI 8.5 will need to download a considerably larger package of around 3.8GB.
One UI 9 reaches older foldables
Samsung is also rolling out One UI 9 to the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6.
For users who were enrolled in the beta programme, the update is around 408MB on both foldable models. Those upgrading from One UI 8.5 will receive a package of approximately 3.5GB.
The rollout means Samsung is continuing to extend its latest software experience beyond its newest flagship hardware. Users should receive a notification when the update becomes available for their device, although availability may vary by country, carrier and model.
Samsung expands Android 17 rollout
Samsung initially released One UI 9 for the Galaxy S26 series in mid-September. The company then expanded the stable update to the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 towards the end of September.
One UI 9 first debuted on Samsung’s latest foldable devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8, in July.
The latest rollout comes several months after One UI 9 first appeared on Samsung’s newest foldables, but the company is now steadily extending the Android 17-based software to its older flagship devices.
Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 owners in markets outside South Korea may therefore have to wait a little longer before the update becomes available. Samsung is expected to continue expanding the rollout internationally in the coming weeks.
