SRB extends date for sales tax return, payment

Karachi: The Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) issued Circular No. 02/2023 on Tuesday, extending the deadline for filing monthly returns and making sales tax payments for the tax period of February 2023.

The circular, which comes as a relief for registered persons and withholding agents covered by the provisions of the Sindh Sales Tax Special Procedure (Withholding) Rules, 2014, outlines the new deadlines for e-deposit and e-filing. The extension is expected to provide businesses with the necessary flexibility to fulfill their tax obligations.

According to the provisions of the circular:

1. E-Deposit of Sindh Sales Tax:

• Registered persons, including withholding agents, are permitted to e-deposit the amounts of Sindh sales tax for the tax period of February 2023 on or before Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

• The deposits should be made in the Sindh government’s designated head of account in the prescribed manner.

2. E-Filing of Tax Returns:

• Registered persons, including withholding agents, have the flexibility to e-file their tax returns for the tax period of February 2023 on or before Friday, March 24, 2023.

• The e-filing should be completed in accordance with the prescribed manner stipulated by the provincial tax authority.

The extension granted by the SRB aligns with the board’s commitment to facilitating taxpayers and ensuring a smooth tax compliance process. This measure acknowledges the dynamic nature of businesses and the need for periodic adjustments in deadlines to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.

Businesses and taxpayers are encouraged to take advantage of the extended timeline to accurately fulfill their tax obligations and submit the required documentation. Adherence to the revised deadlines will not only assist taxpayers in avoiding penalties but also contribute to the efficient functioning of the tax collection process.

The SRB remains committed to promoting a taxpayer-friendly environment while upholding the principles of transparency and accountability in tax administration. The circular serves as a testament to the board’s responsiveness to the concerns and needs of the business community in the Sindh province.

Taxpayers are advised to stay informed about such circulars and updates from the SRB to ensure compliance with the latest directives and to benefit from any further facilitative measures that may be introduced in the future. The extension period provides an opportunity for businesses to streamline their financial processes and meet their tax obligations without undue pressure.
