Sri Lanka Cricket has officially unveiled its squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, with experienced all-rounder Dasun Shanaka named captain for the global event. Shanaka had earlier been appointed skipper in the preliminary squad announced in December, and his leadership role has now been confirmed for the final lineup.
The squad boasts a solid blend of experience and youth, particularly in the batting department. Senior white-ball campaigners Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Janith Perera, and Charith Asalanka form the backbone of the top and middle order, providing stability and firepower.
Sri Lanka’s all-round strength remains one of its biggest assets. Wanindu Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis, and Dunith Wellalage add crucial balance with their ability to contribute in both batting and bowling departments.
The bowling attack features proven pace options Dushmantha Chameera and Matheesha Pathirana, while mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana is expected to play a key role in middle overs.
Sri Lanka are currently involved in a home T20I series against England, with the visitors leading 2-0 ahead of the final match. The series is serving as vital preparation for the World Cup.
The island nation previously lifted the T20 World Cup title in 2014, defeating India in the final.
