Dambulla, January 11, 2026 — Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 14 runs in the third T20 International at Dambulla on Sunday, leveling the three-match series 1-1. The opening match was won by Pakistan, while the second T20I was abandoned due to rain.
Persistent rain delayed the start of play, forcing the match to be reduced to 12 overs per side. Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 160 for 6, making full use of the shortened format.
After losing Pathum Nissanka early for a duck, Sri Lanka recovered through quick-fire contributions from Kamil Mishara (20 off 8) and Kusal Mendis (30 off 16). Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka kept the momentum going in the middle overs, while skipper Dasun Shanaka provided the late fireworks with a blistering 34 off just 9 balls, including five sixes. Janith Liyanage remained unbeaten on 22 off 8 balls to push Sri Lanka to an imposing total. For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Naseem Shah and Faheem Ashraf picked up one each.
In reply, Pakistan’s chase got off to a shaky start as early wickets fell in quick succession. Captain Salman Agha briefly revived hopes with a stunning 45 off 12 balls, smashing five fours and three sixes. Mohammad Nawaz (28 off 15) and Khawaja Nafay (26 off 15) also chipped in, but regular wickets halted Pakistan’s momentum.
Wanindu Hasaranga proved decisive with the ball, returning impressive figures of 4 for 35 in his three overs. Matheesha Pathirana provided crucial breakthroughs, taking two wickets, as Pakistan were restricted to 146 for 8 in their allotted 12 overs.
With the series now level, both teams will look to gain the upper hand in the decisive final T20I.
