KARACHI, April 11 – Sui Southern Gas Company on Saturday announced a 24-hour suspension of gas supply to industrial consumers across Sindh, citing a system shortfall and efforts to improve pressure and ensure equitable distribution.
In a statement, company spokesperson Salman Siddiqui said the utility remained committed to improving gas pressure for consumers and was taking “necessary measures” to manage limited supply within the network.
He said the decision was taken due to a shortfall in available gas, which had affected system balance and line pack levels. The suspension, he added, was intended to stabilize operations and ensure fair distribution across all consumer categories.
According to the notification, gas supply to all industrial users, including captive power plants, will remain suspended from 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026.
SSGC said the temporary measure was part of its broader load management strategy aimed at maintaining system stability during periods of high demand and constrained supply.
The company said it prioritizes domestic consumers and essential services in its distribution plan, particularly during peak consumption periods, to minimize disruptions to households and critical operations.
Officials said gas load management, including scheduled suspensions for industrial users, is routinely implemented to balance supply and demand across the transmission network.
SSGC added that it continuously monitors gas reserves and system pressure to ensure operational efficiency and prevent unplanned outages.
Industrial consumers in Sindh have frequently faced supply interruptions in recent years due to widening demand-supply gaps in Pakistan’s energy sector, which relies heavily on natural gas for power generation and manufacturing.
Energy analysts say such measures highlight ongoing structural challenges in Pakistan’s gas sector, including declining domestic production and rising consumption, particularly during seasonal peaks.
