Netflix’s global hit series Stranger Things has once again proven its huge influence, as the final season pushed both new and classic songs back into the UK music charts.
Actor Joe Keery, who played Steve Harrington in the series, reached a major milestone in his music career. His music project Djo climbed to number one in the UK with the song End of Beginning. Although the track was released several years ago, it became extremely popular after being featured in the final episode of Stranger Things.
Fans of the 33-year-old actor streamed the song in record numbers, giving it its strongest week ever on the UK charts.
The Netflix series also brought several classic songs back into the spotlight. Prince’s “Purple Rain” returned to the UK Top 40, gaining thousands of new listeners. Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” continued its remarkable comeback, climbing higher once again after earlier success linked to the show.
The Police’s “Every Breath You Take” reached its best UK chart position in years, while Fleetwood Mac made history as Landslide entered the singles chart more than 40 years after its original release.
Singer Tiffany also enjoyed renewed success after I Think We’re Alone Now was featured in an emotional scene. She later thanked UK fans for supporting the song once again.
The Stranger Things finale has turned nostalgia into chart success, helping classic music reach a whole new generation of listeners.
