Stranger Things: The First Shadow Broadway Trailer Unveiled

Netflix

Netflix has officially released the highly-anticipated trailer for Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the chilling Broadway prequel to its hit sci-fi series.

The trailer, which dropped on Thursday night, July 22, offers a haunting glimpse into the origin story of one of the show’s most terrifying villains — Vecna.

Set in 1959 Hawkins, Stranger Things: The First Shadow centers on a teenage Henry Creel, portrayed by Tony Award nominee Louis McCartney. Henry begins as a seemingly innocent boy but is plagued by dark visions and violent urges that gradually transform him into the monstrous Vecna. Emmy nominee Gabrielle Nevaeh also stars in a key role alongside a strong ensemble cast.

In one powerful scene, Henry’s sister tries to console him, saying, “Nightmares don’t make you a monster.” His chilling response: “They do if you can make them come true,” sets the tone for the psychological horror unfolding on stage.

The play features an impressive cast including Rosie Benton (Virginia Creel), Alex Breaux (Dr. Brenner), Ta’Rea Campbell (Patty’s Mom), Juan Carlos (Bob Newby), and Robert T. Cunningham (Charles Sinclair), among others. The production is penned by Kate Trefry, a key writer on the original Netflix series, in collaboration with Stranger Things creators and executive producers, the Duffer Brothers.

Premiering with preview performances in March and officially opening on April 22, the show has already proven to be a box office success. Stranger Things: The First Shadow received widespread acclaim and went on to win four 2025 Tony Awards, including Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Sound Design, and a Special Tony Award for its groundbreaking illusions and technical effects.

With its haunting story, stellar cast, and cinematic production value, the Broadway adaptation of Stranger Things brings a new dimension to the Upside Down — thrilling fans on and off the stage.
