Strong Weather System Enters Balochistan on February 25

Islamabad, February 24, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a statement, alerting the nation to a strong weather system set to enter Balochistan on Sunday, February 25, 2024, bringing substantial changes to the weather across the country.

According to the PMD, a shallow westerly trough is currently positioned over the northern parts of Pakistan. A fresh westerly wave is anticipated to enter Balochistan in the evening of February 25, 2024, gradually extending its influence over the upper parts of the country on February 26.

The PMD’s forecast for Sunday, February 25, 2024, predicts predominantly cold and dry conditions in most regions of the country, with partly cloudy skies in the western areas. However, the weather is expected to take a turn during the evening and night, as rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills are forecasted in Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Pothohar region, and Islamabad. Additionally, isolated heavy falls are anticipated in southwestern Balochistan during this period.

Looking back at Saturday, February 24, 2024, the weather was characterized by cold and dry conditions in most parts of the country, with partly cloudy skies in the upper regions. Isolated light rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills were reported in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas.

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed across the nation, with particularly chilly conditions and partly cloudy skies in the northern parts. Isolated rain occurred in central Punjab, with light snow recorded in the picturesque town of Murree.

The recorded rainfall in the past 24 hours includes noteworthy figures in Faisalabad, with GMA Water Works receiving 12 mm, Madina Town 08 mm, Dogar Basti 07 mm, Gulistan Colony 06 mm, and Allama Iqbal 03 mm. Jhang also recorded 01 mm of rainfall.

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded today were as follows: Leh at -17°C, Kalam at -12°C, Astore at -09°C, Skardu at -06°C, and Gupis, Hunza at -05°C. Gilgit, Bagrote, and Malam Jabba recorded temperatures of -04°C.
