June 9, 2025 — Punjab is officially sizzling under the ruthless grip of summer, with temperatures blazing across the province in what is being described as the hottest spell of the season.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has sounded a red alert as the summer sun unleashes its full fury, especially in the plains of Punjab, where residents are enduring blistering heat with little relief in sight.
As per PMD’s forecast for Monday, June 9, the weather in Punjab will remain very hot and dry, with gusty and dust-raising winds expected to whip through plain districts during the afternoon. This harsh summer pattern began to intensify over the weekend, and Sunday, June 8, saw no mercy either — the province remained trapped in a furnace-like environment under a relentless sun.
The summer heat has not only engulfed Punjab, but is wreaking havoc on a national level. A severe heatwave warning has been issued for the entire country, including Punjab, during the Eid holidays and the coming week. Daytime temperatures are anticipated to soar 5 to 7°C above normal in the upper half of the country, including central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Meanwhile, southern Punjab and parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to sizzle with temperatures 4 to 6°C above average.
Synoptic Snapshot:
A sweltering high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere continues to dominate the region, trapping heat over most of Pakistan. Continental air is prevailing, with a shallow westerly trough likely to bring slight relief only to upper KP and adjoining areas during the night.
Heat Recap:
In the past 24 hours, most parts of the country, especially the plains, endured intense summer heat, while isolated showers were reported in parts of upper KP and the Potohar region. Punjab saw limited rainfall, with Islamabad Airport and Attock recording just 4mm, and Rawalpindi 2mm.
Scorching Peaks:
The hottest temperatures yesterday included Sibbi at 49°C, Dadu at 48°C, and Shaheed Benazirabad and Sakrand at a searing 47°C.
Residents of Punjab are urged to stay indoors, stay hydrated, and brace for more extreme summer days ahead.
