The recently released trailer for the highly anticipated new Superman film has sparked mixed reactions, with the majority of fans expressing excitement, but a vocal segment of Henry Cavill’s followers expressing disappointment and frustration.
On December 19, DC Studios unveiled the fresh trailer for the upcoming superhero movie, and it quickly broke records by becoming the most-watched trailer in DC’s history. While many viewers praised the fresh direction, new casting choices, and updated visuals, there was a clear divide among Cavill’s fanbase, who were not pleased with his replacement as Superman.
The decision to cast actor David Corenswet in the lead role has left many longtime Cavill supporters feeling disheartened. They argue that excluding the 41-year-old British actor marks a significant setback for the Superman franchise. For many fans, Cavill’s portrayal of the iconic superhero in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League has become synonymous with the character, and his absence in this new iteration is seen as a major disappointment. One frustrated fan took to social media, commenting, “Ridiculous, the way they are starting the whole story over makes me angry. Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder should’ve kept the story going. And I hate the Superman suit, it’s ugly!”
Others echoed similar sentiments, expressing disbelief that the studio chose to move forward without Cavill. One fan wrote, “Doesn’t look great does it… impossible for me to truly care about Superman. He’s the most boring character ever. Can’t believe they fumbled Henry Cavill though; he had it on lock.”
In another heated comment, a fan went so far as to call DC CEO James Gunn a “clown” for making the decision to replace Cavill. They argued that Cavill was “born to play Superman” and that the new suit was a significant downgrade. “This clown @JamesGunn actually went from this perfect casting born to play #Superman Henry Cavill to that nobody, and that difference in the suit is atrocious!!! This is beyond shameful!”
Despite the backlash, the film is set for release in 2025, with David Corenswet taking on the role of Superman.
