    Pakistan may cut petroleum prices on Dec 15, 2022

    Pakistan may reduce petroleum prices on December 15 to be effective for last fortnight of the year 2022. Experts believe that the government may reduce the prices of petroleum products in the wake of sharp decline in oil prices in global markets.

    Benchmark Brent crude is ended at $76 per barrel in the international trade. The Brent crude has hit above $120 per barrel during mid-June this year and now fell to the present level leaving ample room to the present government to revise downward the prices to provide relief the domestic consumers.

    An energy expert told PkRevenue that the country may revise the petroleum prices for the next fortnight amid sharp fall in international oil prices.

    However, on the other hand the depreciation in rupee value and imminent imposition of sales tax on petroleum products the benefit of decline in international oil prices may not pass on to domestic consumers.

    The expert believed that the imposition of sales tax on petroleum products would increase the retail prices as well as result in high inflation.

    However, experts believed that rise in petroleum prices were imminent in the next review as the government was under immense pressure from the IMF to impose sales tax on petroleum products.

    At present the government adopted a policy to keep zero sales tax on petroleum products instead flat rate of 17 per cent. Furthermore, the government also committed to apply petroleum levy to generate more revenue for curtailing budget deficit.

    The government on December 01, 2022 revised the latest petroleum prices. According to a notification, the prices of petroleum products with effect from December 01, 2022 till December 15, 2022 are be as follows:

    Petrol price will be remained unchanged at Rs224.80 per liter.

    The rate of high speed diesel (HSD) will also be remained unchanged at Rs235.30 per liter.

    The price of kerosene has been reduced by Rs10 per liter to Rs181.83 from Rs191.30.

    Likewise, the price of light diesel oil has been reduced by Rs7.50 per liter to Rs179.00 from Rs186.50.

    The exchange rate is again showing a deterioration in rupee value against the dollar. The US dollar continued to make gain against the Pakistani Rupee (PKR) on December 09, 2022 and reached PKR 224.40 in the interbank foreign exchange market.

    KARACHI: Facebook Stars, Meta’s monetization feature for content creators is now open to all eligible creators in Pakistan to help them connect with their audiences and build a business.

    Stars, a digital good that fans can buy and send to support creators, will enable Pakistani online content creators to easily onboard, check their earnings by content type, manage their goals, and access other Stars settings. This tool is available across multiple formats: Facebook Reels, Facebook Live, on-demand videos, as well as photos and text posts.

    “Helping creators to build community and turn their passions into professions is a key part of our continued investment in Pakistan,“ said Jordi Fornies, Meta’s Director of Emerging Markets for the Asia Pacific region. “Today, we are thrilled to announce that Facebook Stars is open to all eligible creators in Pakistan, so more people can start earning while they grow their creativity, audience and careers.”

    Earlier this year, Meta brought Reels to Pakistan, introducing short form, entertaining video experiences and tools to creators and audiences. Today Reels is the fastest-growing content format on Meta platforms globally. There are more than 140 billion Reels played across Facebook and Instagram each day.

    “We are encouraged to see Meta’s contribution in supporting local businesses in Pakistan and opening up different ways for Pakistani content creators to generate meaningful, reliable revenue on their platforms. We hope the Stars program will create new opportunities to monetize and play a role in strengthening the country’s digital economy,” said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan during his visit to the Meta regional office in Singapore today.

    Any Pakistani creator with at least 1,000 followers online through the last 60 days who meets the following eligibility criteria will be able to begin receiving Stars from their audiences.

    “So wonderful to see Stars has launched in Pakistan, giving more creators like me on Facebook and Reels the opportunity to build community and earn money through doing what we love,” said Danish Ali, Pakistani content creator. “I’m excited for creators in Pakistan to start using Stars to generate an income and build deeper connections with their audiences as they grow on Facebook.”

    Recognized as the Oscars of the Asian IT industry, popularly called the APICTA Awards, the 2022 edition is taking place in Islamabad, from December 7-11, 2022.

    The 21st APICTA Awards of the regional economies are being held in Pakistan for the first time since the inception of the alliance. They are being organized by the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) and TechDestination for IT and ITES, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT).

    The event will be attended by 15 economies of the region, with 150+foreign delegates from economies including Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, etc.

    A special meeting of the delegates was held at the Prime Minister’s House. The Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, on the occasion, appreciated P@SHA’s vision and its support by the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Syed Amin Ul Haque, for bringing APICTA to Pakistan.
