ECC Approves Rs 7.49 Billion Ramazan Relief Package
Islamabad, February 13, 2024 – In a significant move aimed at providing relief to the targeted beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) during the holy month of Ramazan, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved a Rs7.492 billion Ramazan Relief Package.

Utility Stores Corporation implements Ramazan Package ahead of fasting month: RM Javed Khan
KARACHI: Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has implemented subsidized rates under Ramazan Package announced by the government to provide relief the masses during the holy month, a top official said on Sunday.
“The reduced rates have been implemented across the country from May 03, 2019 around three or four days ahead of Ramazan,” said Muhammad Javed Khan, USC, Regional Manager (RM), Karachi.
“All the USC outlets are now selling hundreds of items at the subsidized rates,” he added.
Khan said that a significant reduction had been announced in those items that were mostly used during the fasting month such as sugar, wheat flour, rice, pulses, edible oil and ghee etc.
“These commodities have reduced prices up to 20 percent when compared with the open market,” the regional manager added.
The federal government has provided Rs2 billion to subsidized the rates of essential items to be sold through the Utility Stores.
The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC) in its meeting on March 12 approved subsidy amounting Rs2 billion to provide relief the masses during Ramazan ul Mubarak.
Javed Khan pointed out some of items having significant reduction in prices, which included: sugar Rs 64 per kilogram, wheat flour Rs340/10-kg, whet gram Rs100/kg, Dal Chana Rs105/kg, Dal Masoor Rs90/kg, vegetable ghee Rs129/kg, edible oil Rs153/liter, Rooh Afza Rs183/800ml, cold drink (all brands) Rs77/1.5 liters, Tapal tea 793/kg, dates Rs60/500 grams, Rice Super Rs114/kg.
The regional manager said that in order to ensure availability and avoid bulk sale the zonal chief had constituted vigilance teams for monitoring.
He said that on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan the regional chiefs across the country were also visiting the outlets to ensure the availability and for price checks as well.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has recently directives all the government functionaries to ensure securities and availability of essential items at reduced rates during the holy month of Ramazan ul Mubarak.

ECC directs USC to ensure essential items availability during Ramazan
ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Wednesday directed Utility Stores Corporation (USC) to ensure availability of essential items during the holy month of Ramazan.
The ECC meeting was held with Finance Minister Asad Umar in the chair.
The Committee reviewed proposals of various ministries/divisions.
The committee also considered and approved various demands of division ministries for supplementary and technical supplementary grants.
Industries and Production Division gave a presentation to update the Committee about status of Ramazan Package.
The committee directed the USC to expedite the procurement of essential consumer items so as to provide timely relief to the people in Holy Month of Ramazan.
The ECC constituted a four-member Committee to be headed by Railways Minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, to oversee the implementation of Ramazan Package.
The Ministry of Petroleum briefed the ECC on the implementation of the Committee’s decision regarding utilization of services of Pakistan Railways for transportation of petroleum products across the country.
The ministry of Railways informed the committee that it had the capacity to carry higher volumes and would work with the Ministry of Petroleum to explore further possibilities.
The ECC approved, in principle, the proposal of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting for media campaign aiming to disseminate information relating to initiatives on Poverty Alleviation, Sehat Insaaf Scheme, PM’s Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme etc.
The committee also directed the Ministry of Finance and National Bank of Pakistan to extend maximum facilitation to the USC in this regard.
The finance minister said that the budgetary needs of many organizations had not been properly assessed at the time of preparation of budget estimate last year which was leading to a large number of demands for supplementary grants.
He emphasized the need for proper budgeting of the financial needs of various departments, which would obviate the need for supplementary grants during the currency of the fiscal year.
He stated that the government is determined to phase out the supplementary grants in the future budgets.

Prime Minister directs to ensure security, commodity availability during Ramzan
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday directed interior ministry and all provincial governments to ensure security and availability of commodities during the holy month of Ramzan.
In a letter addressed to Ministry of Interior and Chief Secretaries of all provincial governments including AJ&K and Gilgit Baltistan, the Prime Minister directed that coordination meetings with all provinces should be held to streamline the arrangements including security measures.
Notification of Price Control Committees, down till field levels in all the provinces and ICT should be issued.
The PM office has directed that physical presence of officers at Mandis, specially monitoring the auction process in order to keep base prices at minimum level should be ensured during Ramzan.
It directed the provincial governments that intelligence based action should be taken against black marketing and hoarding.
The provinces have been asked to issue detailed duty roster in each District covering all important markets, without over stretching the officers.
To complement effective implementation and monitoring, services of officers of line departments may be incorporated and investment of magisterial power by the concerned law departments, if required.
The prime minister office advised that performance monitoring of the officers and Districts should be made on KPIs and setting success benchmarks.
It has further advised that volunteers should be mobilized to get feedback about shortages and overpricing on Citizen Complain Portal.
The Prime Minister Office has stressed upon the need for holding well managed Sasta Bazars with availability of all essential commodities on control prices.
Prime Minister has directed that special measures should be taken to control the use of loud speakers during the month of Ramzan.
District Price Control Committees and Law & Order Committee headed by respective DCs should meet at regular intervals. Prime Minister has emphasized upon the need for ensuring fool-proof security arrangements especially during Traveh.
The Prime Minister Office has further advised the provincial government that surprise checking by the senior provincial officers in the districts should be ensured.
The letter calls upon the provincial governments to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas, electricity and water especially at the time of Sehri and Iftar.
It says that provision of subsidized flour, sugar , ghee/oil etc by the provincial governments in model bazar only should also be ensured.
The Prime Minister has directed Ministry of Interior to hold coordination meeting with all relevant stakeholders as soon as possible and to issue instructions/ make necessary arrangements accordingly.
It is pertinent to mention the government has already announced Ramazan package at the Utility Stores for providing low priced commodities to masses.
