Dhaka, May 16, 2025 – Bangladesh pace spearhead Taskin Ahmed is on the road to recovery and remains hopeful of rejoining the national team for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
After a spell on the sidelines due to an Achilles injury sustained earlier this year, Taskin Ahmed has resumed light bowling and is cautiously optimistic about his return to competitive cricket.
The 30-year-old fast bowler, who last featured for Bangladesh during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in February, has been undergoing an intensive rehabilitation program. Having recently returned from London after consulting with medical specialists, Taskin Ahmed is back at the training nets under the supervision of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s physio and trainers.
“It’s part of the rehabilitation process. We’ve developed a structured plan with input from a UK-based specialist and the cricket board’s medical team,” said Taskin Ahmed. “I’ve already completed five rehab sessions and started bowling lightly. Although there’s no fixed date for my comeback, the goal is to be fit in time for the Sri Lanka series in June.”
The multi-format tour of Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin on June 17 with two Test matches in Galle and Colombo, followed by six limited-overs matches in July. Taskin’s presence would be a massive boost to the Bangladesh bowling unit, especially given his performance during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, where he solidified his role as a leader in the pace attack.
Adding to Bangladesh’s preparation is the appointment of former Australian pacer Shaun Tait as the new fast bowling coach. Tait, known for his raw pace and vast T20 experience, has signed on until November 2027. Taskin Ahmed expressed enthusiasm about working with Tait, noting that his experience in major T20 leagues and tournaments will be valuable ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
“He [Tait] was a top-class fast bowler and brings knowledge of the modern T20 game. Having him around will help with tactical awareness and technical guidance,” said Taskin.
If his recovery continues without setbacks, Taskin Ahmed is set to make a crucial return for Bangladesh’s summer campaign.
