Section 192A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 provides for imprisonment, a fine or both where concealed income or inaccurate reporting causes a revenue impact of at least Rs500,000.

Pakistan’s tax laws provide for imprisonment of up to two years for taxpayers found guilty of concealing income or furnishing inaccurate income particulars resulting in a revenue impact of Rs500,000 or more during Tax Year 2027.

According to Section 192A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, updated by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) up to June 30, 2026, such conduct constitutes an offence punishable upon conviction with imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both.

Tax Year 2027 covers the period from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.

The provision applies where a person conceals income or provides inaccurate particulars of income during proceedings under the ordinance or in earlier proceedings, provided the resulting revenue impact reaches the statutory threshold of Rs500,000.

Section 192A also identifies specific actions that may constitute concealment of income. These include suppressing income or an amount chargeable to tax, claiming deductions for expenditure that was not actually incurred, and committing acts covered under Section 111 of the ordinance.

The provision strengthens the legal framework for addressing inaccurate income declarations and tax concealment, making taxpayers potentially liable to criminal prosecution where the specified conditions are met.

Taxpayers should ensure that income declarations, expense claims and supporting records are accurate and complete to meet their obligations under Pakistan’s income tax laws.
