Teen Spinner Rehan Ahmed Joins England Squad

Leicestershire’s 18-year-old leg-spinner, Rehan Ahmed, has been called up to the England squad for the upcoming second Ashes Test against Australia.

The highly anticipated match is scheduled to commence at Lord’s on June 28. Ahmed’s inclusion is seen as a contingency plan for Moeen Ali, the spinning all-rounder who encountered difficulties due to a finger injury during the previous Test, resulting in Australia’s narrow two-wicket victory.

Ahmed made his debut in Test cricket last winter during the match against Pakistan in Karachi. His exceptional performance, which included a remarkable five-wicket haul, saw him secure seven wickets in total.

Despite his evident talent, the England selectors have opted for a cautious approach, carefully managing Ahmed’s progression by omitting him from subsequent squads after his debut, ensuring his talent is nurtured and protected.

Although Liam Dawson was initially considered as a potential replacement, the final decision favored Rehan Ahmed.

Should he be chosen to play at Lord’s, it will mark Ahmed’s first appearance in a Test match on home soil. His batting prowess also adds value to England’s lower order, boasting an impressive county cricket batting average of 33.10.
