The cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 is opening up about their unique experience filming the highly anticipated sequel, with Meryl Streep taking a markedly different approach than in the 2006 original.

In a recent interview with Variety, Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci reflected on the franchise’s legacy ahead of the sequel’s May 1 release. For Hathaway, the biggest change was Streep’s decision to step away from Method acting between takes, creating a lighter, more playful atmosphere on set.

Recalling a camera test, Hathaway said, “I heard over the radio: ‘Miranda Priestly is walking.’ Meryl, as Miranda, had started down the hallway ahead of me — I was maybe 50 feet behind her — and seeing her from the back was practically psychedelic. I just felt so many portals open up at that moment. I was 22 again, but it was still now.” She added with a laugh, “Thankfully, this time she didn’t stay in character the entire time, so we had a lot of laughs.”

Streep explained why she abandoned Method acting after the first film. “It was horrible!” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2021. “I was [miserable] in my trailer… I was so depressed! I said, ‘Well, it’s the price you pay for being boss!’ That’s the last time I ever attempted a Method thing.”

Both Hathaway and Blunt admitted that while Streep could be intimidating, she was always supportive. Blunt described her as “amazing and slightly terrifying,” highlighting the lasting impact Streep has had on her co-stars’ performances.

With the sequel promising both nostalgia and fresh dynamics, fans are eagerly awaiting The Devil Wears Prada 2 to see Streep and the returning cast in action once again.
