The Mandalorian and Grogu heads to digital release with bonus content

Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to arrive on digital platforms later this month following its theatrical run, with fans also getting access to exclusive behind-the-scenes bonus features.

According to People, the latest Star Wars film will be available for digital purchase beginning July 21 on platforms including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango.

Physical editions, including 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, are scheduled for release on Aug. 25.

Bonus features highlight Grogu’s creation

Both the digital and Blu-ray releases will include a collection of behind-the-scenes featurettes exploring the making of the film.

Among the bonus content is a closer look at how Grogu, affectionately known to fans as Baby Yoda, was brought to life.

Rather than relying entirely on computer-generated imagery, filmmakers used an advanced puppet created and operated by Lucasfilm’s visual effects team, combining practical effects with digital enhancements.

Producer Dave Filoni said the production team aimed to push the creative limits of Grogu’s on-screen performance.

“Through this movie, we wanted to push the limitations of Grogu,” Filoni said, describing the beloved character as “a great little actor.”

Pedro Pascal praises visual effects team

Lead actor Pedro Pascal, who reprises his role as bounty hunter Din Djarin, praised the crew responsible for bringing Grogu to life.

“Grogu and the Legacy team, as a collective, are the most organic scene partners that anyone could wish for,” Pascal said.

Co-star Sigourney Weaver, who portrays Colonel Ward in the film, also spoke about Grogu’s appeal during production.

“I am in love with Grogu. I know there are people on the floor and all around him, but all I see is his little face,” Weaver said.

“You cannot help but fall in love with that little face,” she added.

Expanding the Star Wars universe

The Mandalorian and Grogu continues the story of Din Djarin and his young companion following the success of Disney+’s The Mandalorian television series.

The film’s home release gives fans another opportunity to revisit the latest chapter in the Star Wars franchise while offering an inside look at the filmmaking process behind one of its most beloved characters.
