The Odyssey dominates South Korean box office for second weekend

Christopher Nolan’s latest film earned $13.2 million in its second weekend, extending its lead over Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey remained at the top of the South Korean box office during the August 14-16 weekend, beating Spider-Man: Brand New Day for a second consecutive weekend.

According to KOBIS data operated by the Korean Film Council, The Odyssey earned $13.2 million from 1,691,744 admissions across 2,114 screens. The film accounted for 59.07% of the weekend market, with its second-weekend takings increasing by nearly 28%.

Since its release on August 5, The Odyssey has grossed $35.2 million from 4,542,480 admissions in South Korea, maintaining a strong position at the box office.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day remained in second place during its third weekend. The Marvel film collected $5.6 million from 767,839 admissions, representing 25.47% of the weekend market.

The film has now accumulated $53.5 million from 7,279,373 admissions since its release, although it continues to trail The Odyssey in weekly box office performance.

Teenieping: Legend of the Whale Heartstone held on to third place, earning $906,294 from 133,928 admissions. The family musical fantasy has generated $4.2 million from 633,527 viewers since its August 5 release.

Opening in fourth place was Ok! Madam: Bon Voyage, which collected $827,800 from 120,982 admissions. The action-comedy sequel has accumulated $1.3 million from 203,968 admissions.

The overall South Korean box office generated approximately $22.3 million during the weekend, down slightly from $22.9 million recorded during the previous weekend.

With The Odyssey increasing its second-weekend earnings and maintaining a substantial lead over its closest competition, Nolan’s film continues to dominate the South Korean theatrical market.
