Thundershower disrupts Eid morning in Karachi

Thudershower

Karachi, March 21, 2026 – Parts of Karachi experienced thundershowers early Saturday morning just hours before Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, disrupting celebrations and causing delays in several areas.

Intermittent rainfall was reported across key localities including Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, and Federal B Area. Some areas experienced heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds, thunder, and lightning. Rain was also recorded in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Johar, where cloudy skies persisted throughout the morning.

The showers led to temporary power outages in areas such as Defence View, while water accumulation was reported in low-lying parts of Saddar and nearby neighborhoods, creating inconvenience for residents.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), thunderstorms were already forecast for the city on Eid day, with intermittent rain expected to continue until later in the evening. The Met Office added that the rainfall is likely to bring down temperatures, with the maximum expected to hover around 31°C.

Weather experts noted that Karachi has been experiencing relatively cooler nights following recent rains, though unstable weather conditions remain in place due to an active westerly system affecting much of the country.

Rain is also expected in several districts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and coastal areas, with a risk of lightning strikes. Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures.

Looking ahead, Karachi is expected to remain mostly cloudy over the next two days of Eid, while another westerly system may bring further rain between March 24 and 27.

Meanwhile, parts of Punjab, including Lahore and Rawalpindi, are also likely to receive rainfall, with chances of hailstorms in some regions.
