Islamabad, September 16, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted thundershowers in Islamabad over the next two days, with a chance of gusty winds and occasional lightning.
The latest advisory highlights varying probabilities of rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, cautioning residents to stay alert.
For Tuesday, the PMD has forecast partly cloudy conditions in Islamabad and surrounding areas. During the afternoon and evening, rain-wind/thundershower is likely, with a 55% probability. The department also warned of possible windstorms at isolated locations. On Wednesday, partly cloudy skies are expected in the capital, with a 40% chance of rain-wind/thundershower during the night or early morning hours.
A special warning has been issued for today’s evening and night, highlighting risks of windstorms and lightning. Such conditions may damage weak structures, including walls and rooftops of kacha houses, as well as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. Citizens, travelers, and tourists in Islamabad have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to vulnerable areas and keep themselves updated on the changing weather.
Synoptic situation: Moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating upper regions of Pakistan, while a westerly wave is present over northern areas. This system is expected to influence weather patterns over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, where scattered showers and isolated heavy falls may occur.
During the past 24 hours, hot and dry conditions dominated most of the country, with rain reported in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Kashmir. The highest temperature yesterday was recorded in Dalbandin at 42°C, followed by Nokkundi and Sibbi at 41°C.
