Thundershower forecast for North Punjab on Saturday: PMD

Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, June 20, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting thundershowers across several northern districts of Punjab on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

This weather system is expected to be accompanied by duststorms and gusty winds.

According to the PMD’s 24-hour forecast, while most areas of Punjab are likely to experience hot and humid conditions on Saturday, northern districts will see a change in weather patterns. Thundershower activity is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore, and their surrounding regions. Additionally, areas like Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan may experience duststorms due to local wind activity.

For Friday night, PMD predicted mainly hot and humid weather in most districts of Punjab, but partly cloudy skies are expected in northeastern parts. The department noted a chance of isolated thundershowers along with duststorms and rain-wind in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, and adjacent areas.

The national weather outlook indicates that moist currents from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are currently penetrating into the upper and central parts of the country. Furthermore, a fresh westerly wave is likely to enter the upper regions Friday night, enhancing the likelihood of thundershower development.

On Saturday, the PMD expects duststorms, rain, and thundershowers in parts of Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and upper Punjab. Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated in Kashmir and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the rest of the country, including central and southern Punjab, is likely to remain under hot and humid conditions.

Over the past 24 hours, most regions of the country endured sweltering heat, especially the plains. Rainfall was limited, with only minor precipitation recorded in Rawalakot (4 mm) and Bagrote (1 mm). Among the highest temperatures recorded on Friday were Bhakkar at a scorching 48°C, followed by Sibbi and Dalbandin at 47°C, and Turbat, Khairpur, and Noorpur Thal each at 46°C.

As the weekend approaches, residents of Punjab, especially in the north, are advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins and prepare for potential thundershower activity.
