Thundershower Likely in Northern Punjab on August 13

Islamabad, August 13, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating the likelihood of thundershowers and rain-wind in northern Punjab today.

The overall weather pattern for August 13, 2023, is expected to be hot and humid across most parts of the country. However, specific regions are expected to experience rain-wind and thundershowers, primarily in northeast Punjab, the Pothohar region, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir. There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places in northeast Punjab, the Pothohar region, and Kashmir during this period.

The synoptic situation, as described by the Met office, involves moist currents from the Arabian Sea that are entering the upper regions of the country. Additionally, there is a shallow westerly wave present in these upper parts, contributing to the anticipated weather conditions.

In the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather conditions were prevalent in most areas of the country. However, there were isolated instances of rain-thundershower activities in northeast Punjab. The recorded rainfall in millimeters was as follows: Punjab (Airport 26, Tajpura 02), and Narowal received 01 millimeter of rain.

Regarding the highest recorded maximum temperatures in degrees Celsius for today, Dalbandin reached 44°C, while both Sibbi and Nokkundi recorded temperatures of 43°C.   Residents and travelers in the mentioned regions are advised to stay informed about local weather updates and take necessary precautions as per the guidance provided by relevant authorities to ensure safety during these weather conditions.
