Islamabad, July 31, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued thundershower activity in Islamabad on Friday, August 1, 2025, as part of the ongoing monsoon spell affecting various parts of the country.
The PMD predicts partly cloudy conditions in Islamabad with a 40% chance of rain-wind/thundershower activity on Friday. Similar weather prevailed on Thursday, July 31, with a 45% probability of thundershowers in the capital and surrounding areas.
The current synoptic situation reveals a seasonal low pressure area located over northeast Balochistan, while monsoon currents are actively penetrating the upper regions of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave is affecting the upper parts, intensifying rainfall activity.
For Thursday night, the PMD issued a national alert warning of heavy rains that may trigger flash flooding in local streams and nullahs across Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Tank, South Punjab, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir. Furthermore, thundershowers with strong winds and lightning could pose risks to vulnerable structures like Kacha houses, billboards, electric poles, solar panels, and parked vehicles.
On Friday, rain-wind/thundershower is also expected across southern Punjab, Potohar region, northeastern Balochistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while hot and humid conditions will dominate the southern parts of the country.
Over the past 24 hours, multiple cities in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan received rain, with Gujranwala recording the highest at 47mm. Temperatures soared in southern Balochistan, with Dalbandin recording a peak of 45°C.
Residents of Islamabad are advised to remain cautious due to the ongoing thundershower activity and potential for sudden weather changes, particularly during commuting hours and in areas prone to water accumulation or weak infrastructure.
