Thundershower Predicted for Islamabad on October 14, 2023

Weather Forecast Thundershowers

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting a thundershower event in the capital city of Islamabad on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

The PMD’s daily report also states that this weather system will affect various regions in the country.

The PMD report indicates that a windstorm, combined with rain and thunderstorms, is expected in several regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Additionally, in plain areas, isolated hailstorms are likely to occur. The PMD has warned of heavy rainfall in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Potohar region during this period. However, other parts of the country are expected to experience dry weather.

In an alert accompanying the forecast, the PMD cautioned that moderate to heavy rainfall could increase water flows in local Nullahs/streams, potentially leading to landslides in vulnerable areas such as Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, and Abbottabad from Friday night to Tuesday.

Explaining the synoptic situation, the PMD reported that a westerly wave is currently affecting northern regions and is likely to extend to upper and central parts of the country on Saturday.

Over the past 24 hours, most parts of Pakistan have experienced dry weather. The recorded highest maximum temperatures in various areas were Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad, both reaching 41°C.

As the thundershower prediction looms, residents of Islamabad and the affected regions are advised to stay updated with weather warnings and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the anticipated weather event. Local authorities and disaster management teams should also remain on alert to respond to any potential emergencies resulting from heavy rainfall.
