Islamabad, September 17, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting thundershowers in Islamabad and lower Sindh on Monday, September 18, 2023.
This announcement comes as a relief to many who have been enduring hot and humid weather conditions in the region.
According to the PMD’s daily weather forecast, rain accompanied by strong winds and thundershowers is expected to lash various parts of the country. The affected areas include Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, lower Sindh, eastern Balochistan, and Kashmir. Notably, lower Sindh is expected to experience heavy rainfall during this period, which could have a significant impact on local communities and infrastructure.
This weather pattern is attributed to moderate monsoon currents originating from the Bay of Bengal, which are currently penetrating into the upper and central regions of Pakistan. Additionally, a westerly wave is present over the upper and western parts of the country, further contributing to the anticipated precipitation.
Over the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather conditions prevailed across most of the country. However, there were instances of rain and thundershowers reported in various areas, resulting in significant precipitation. Notable rainfall figures include Islamabad (Saidpur 61mm, Airport 41mm, Bokra 36mm, Golra 17mm, Zero Point 15mm), Attock 38mm, Rawalpindi (Kacheri 27mm, Shamsabad 17mm, Chaklala 11mm), and several other regions in Punjab and Kashmir. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan also experienced varying degrees of rainfall during this time.
The highest recorded maximum temperatures for the day were Sibbi at 42°C and Dadu at 40°C, indicating the persisting hot weather conditions prior to the anticipated rainfall.
As the thundershowers approach, residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautions to ensure their safety. This includes staying indoors during heavy rainfall, avoiding low-lying and flood-prone areas, and being cautious while driving on wet and slippery roads.
The PMD will continue to monitor the weather situation closely and provide updates as necessary to keep the public informed about any developments. It is essential for residents to stay tuned to official weather updates and heed any advisories issued to mitigate the impact of these anticipated thundershowers.
This change in weather conditions brings hope to the region, offering much-needed relief from the scorching heat and raising optimism for improved agricultural prospects. The public is encouraged to stay vigilant and prepared as the weather patterns evolve in the coming days.
