The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has raised the alarm as thunderstorm is expected to unleash their fury over central Punjab and Islamabad on Friday, September 29, 2023.
In its daily weather forecast, the PMD has forewarned of a dynamic weather system bringing rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with the added possibility of hailstorms at isolated locations in several regions.
The affected areas span Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, the Potohar region, upper and central Punjab, as well as Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The mountainous terrain is anticipated to witness snowfall, adding a wintry touch to upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Additionally, some rain, wind, and thunderstorm activity may extend to south Punjab. However, other parts of the country are expected to experience dry weather, with the southern regions bracing for hotter conditions.
The PMD’s synoptic analysis points to a westerly wave currently exerting its influence on the upper regions of Pakistan. This weather system is anticipated to persist until Sunday, making it crucial for residents and authorities to remain vigilant and prepared for the dynamic weather changes.
Over the past 24 hours, the prevailing weather conditions across most of the country have been characterized by hot and dry conditions. Thursday saw Shaheed Benazirabad sizzling at 43°C, with Lasbella, Turbat, and Padidan closely following with temperatures reaching 42°C.
