Thunderstorm Forecasted for Southern Balochistan on 12 February

Islamabad, February 11, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting a thunderstorm in isolated areas of southern Balochistan on Monday, 12 February 2024.

While most parts of the country are expected to experience mainly cold and dry weather, the southwestern regions of Balochistan are likely to witness rain, wind, and thunderstorm activities.

According to the PMD’s weather forecast for Monday, February 12, 2024, very cold and cloudy conditions are expected in the upper and western parts of the country. The meteorological agency highlighted the possibility of rain, wind, and thunderstorm in the southwestern regions of Balochistan, emphasizing the need for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions.

In addition to the forecast for southern Balochistan, the PMD anticipates light rain in isolated areas of Kashmir and adjoining hilly regions. Furthermore, residents in the plain areas of northeast Punjab are advised to be cautious as shallow fog may occur during the morning hours.

Looking back at the weather on Sunday, February 11, 2024, the country experienced cold and dry conditions in most areas. The upper parts of the country were very cold and partly cloudy, with isolated chances of rain, wind, and thunderstorm in southwestern Balochistan.

The PMD attributed the current weather conditions to a shallow westerly wave present over the western parts of the country, expected to influence most regions within the next 24 hours. This synoptic situation indicates the likelihood of diverse weather patterns, with the potential for rain and thunderstorm activities.

Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed over the majority of the country, with exceptionally low temperatures recorded in various northern regions. The recorded lowest minimum temperatures include Leh at -13°C, Skardu at -09°C, Kalam at -08°C, Astore at -07°C, Gupis at -06°C, and Gilgit, Chitral, and Srinagar at -05°C. Bagrote, Hunza, and Hunza recorded temperatures of -04°C.

As the weather conditions continue to fluctuate, it is crucial for residents in the forecasted areas, especially in southern Balochistan, to stay updated on the latest weather advisories. The PMD recommends taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of the local communities. Authorities are advised to be prepared for any potential impact on infrastructure and public services that may arise from the forecasted thunderstorm in the region.
