Karachi, April 2, 2026 – A powerful thunderstorm swept across Karachi on Thursday, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to multiple parts of the city. The downpour provided a brief respite from the heat but also raised concerns over urban flooding and infrastructure damage as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued further warnings of continued severe weather.
Areas including Korangi, Saddar, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sharea Faisal, Mauripur, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, PECHS, Clifton, DHA, and II Chundrigar Road received significant rainfall, with several localities experiencing water accumulation and traffic disruptions.
The PMD attributed the storm to a strong westerly weather system affecting southern Pakistan, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms across Sindh. According to forecasts, the weather system is expected to persist, with intermittent heavy rainfall likely in Karachi and surrounding districts such as Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Jamshoro, Dadu, Larkana, and Sukkur.
Meteorologists have warned that the ongoing system may trigger windstorms and lightning, which could damage weak structures such as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. There is also a risk of hailstorms in several areas, which could impact crops and agricultural output in rural regions.
The advisory further cautioned that heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas and local nullahs, increasing the risk of urban flooding across Karachi. Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with weather alerts.
Daytime temperatures are expected to drop during the forecast period, bringing cooler but unstable weather conditions. Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops from possible hail and wind damage.
With more rain forecast, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant as the city braces for continued weather activity in the coming days.
