Australia’s explosive batter Tim David etched his name into the record books with a sensational, unbeaten T20I century, the fastest ever by an Australian in the format.
Facing the West Indies in the third T20I at Warner Park, St Kitts, the 29-year-old powered his way to a stunning 102 not out off just 37 balls, dismantling the bowling attack and surpassing the previous record held by Josh Inglis, who had scored a 43-ball century against Scotland in 2024.
Coming in at a precarious 61/3 in just the sixth over, Tim David launched a brutal counterattack. His innings featured an awe-inspiring display of power hitting: 11 towering sixes and six boundaries, executed with remarkable calmness and control. He forged a game-changing 128-run partnership with Mitch Owen, whose energetic 36* off 16 balls anchored the other end. The chase of 215 was completed with 23 balls to spare, sealing a 3–0 series win for Australia with two T20Is still to play.
“It’s something I didn’t think I’d get to do,” said David post-match. “Scoring a hundred for Australia in a T20I was a childhood dream. I’ve played a lot in the middle or lower order, so I didn’t think I’d get the opportunity.”
Despite being asked to bat at No.5—a position he had rarely occupied in his 55 T20I appearances—David maximized the opportunity. He credited his recent training and composure under pressure for the milestone. “It’s about shot selection, not trying to over-hit. It felt natural today,” he said. He also thanked Mitch Owen, praising his teammate’s positive energy and fearless approach.
The venue itself held personal significance for David. “Warner Park is special to me. I started here during CPL, and to come back and score a century in a T20I feels surreal,” he reflected.
Earlier in the match, West Indies captain Shai Hope had set the tone with his own impressive maiden T20I hundred off 55 balls, helping his team post a formidable 214/4. However, a disciplined bowling effort at the death by Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis restricted the total, allowing Tim David to headline a historic run chase.
The fourth T20I between the two sides is scheduled for Saturday, July 26, at the same venue, where all eyes will once again be on Tim David and his electrifying form.
