Timothée Chalamet opens up about emotional end of Dune Trilogy

Timothée Chalamet has revealed that completing the Dune trilogy was an emotional experience, saying the end of the franchise felt like “losing a part” of himself after spending years portraying Paul Atreides.

The actor opened up about the conclusion of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic during the launch event for the newly released Dune: Part Three trailer.

“This is the most emotive one on a personal level,” Chalamet said. “I’ve been living with this for so long. I’m so proud to be part of it and so proud to work with Denis and his family, so there was a real sense of finality. I felt nostalgic throughout the process.”

Chalamet Describes Dune Trilogy Ending as Emotional Goodbye

The Oscar-nominated actor said wrapping up production left him more emotional than expected, despite knowing the journey was coming to an end.

“Even though I was 29 when we shot this, I still felt like I was losing a part of me by getting through it,” Chalamet said.

When asked about the most difficult scenes to film, he highlighted the final moments of the upcoming movie, explaining that those sequences carried a strong feeling of closure.

“Anything towards the end of the film had this feeling of finality. It was just moving,” he said. “I felt melancholic to be moving on from this incredible family and incredible crew.”

Six Years of Making Dune Films

Reflecting on the years spent creating the trilogy, Chalamet said the experience passed much faster than he expected.

“I couldn’t believe how quickly it all came and went,” he said. “Maybe COVID changed our sense of time, because it felt long in some ways, but making three huge movies over six or seven years really isn’t that long.”

The actor first appeared as Paul Atreides in Dune (2021), followed by Dune: Part Two (2024), with both films receiving critical acclaim for their storytelling, performances and visual achievements.

Dune: Part Three Continues Paul Atreides’ Journey

Dune: Part Three is based on Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert and continues Paul Atreides’ story after the events of the first two films.

The upcoming instalment will see the return of major cast members, including Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Isaach de Bankolé and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The film will also introduce new characters, with Robert Pattinson joining the franchise as Scytale, while Nakoa-Wolf Momoa will portray Leto II Atreides.

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to arrive in theatres in December, bringing Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed adaptation of Herbert’s universe closer to its conclusion.
