Karachi, September 30, 2024 – As of today, the petroleum prices in Pakistan remain as follows: Petrol at Rs 249.10 per liter, High-Speed Diesel (HSD) at Rs 249.69 per liter, Kerosene at Rs 158.47 per liter, and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) at Rs 141.93 per liter.
These prices will be effective until midnight, as the government is set to announce a new revision in petroleum rates for the first half of October 2024.
The most recent adjustment to petroleum prices occurred on August 31, 2024, resulting in a significant reduction that became effective on September 16, 2024. As international oil prices have continued to decline, another reduction in prices is anticipated from October 1, 2024. However, it is expected that petrol prices will remain unchanged due to certain domestic factors, including existing petroleum levies and general sales tax (GST) imposed on fuel.
According to government sources, the petrol price is likely to stay at Rs 249.10 per liter, providing no immediate relief for motorists despite global trends. The government’s decision to maintain the price is influenced by the high rates of petroleum levy and GST, which leave little room for adjustment in petrol prices. Therefore, consumers should not expect any reductions at the petrol pump for the time being.
While petrol prices may remain steady, there is a strong possibility of price cuts in other petroleum products. High-Speed Diesel (HSD), which plays a crucial role in transportation and agricultural sectors, is expected to decrease by Rs 2.11 per liter. This would lower the price of HSD from Rs 249.69 to Rs 247.58 per liter, providing some relief to those who rely heavily on diesel for their vehicles and machinery.
Similarly, Kerosene oil, which is widely used for household lighting and heating, especially in rural areas, could see a reduction of Rs 3.23 per liter. This would bring its price down from Rs 158.47 to Rs 155.24 per liter. Light Diesel Oil (LDO), primarily used in industrial settings, is also expected to experience a minor decrease, with prices forecasted to drop from Rs 141.93 to Rs 141.04 per liter.
As the government prepares to announce its revised petroleum prices, consumers across Pakistan will be watching closely to see how these changes will affect their daily costs.
