After concluding his blockbuster Mission: Impossible franchise, Tom Cruise fans are revisiting his earlier action-packed films to fill the gap of his absence on screen. Beyond the Mission: Impossible series, Cruise is known for high-octane hits like Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick, The Mummy, Edge of Tomorrow, and Jack Reacher.
According to Comicbook.com, while Top Gun: Maverick continues to dominate streaming charts, Cruise’s 2012 thriller Jack Reacher is also gaining renewed attention on major platforms. The original Jack Reacher now ranks in Netflix’s global top 10, while its sequel is performing strongly on Paramount+.
Jack Reacher follows a former military policeman traveling across the U.S., solving crimes and exposing corruption. The film initially received mixed reviews, partly due to Cruise’s physical mismatch with the 6’5” hero described in Lee Child’s novel. However, fans are now praising Cruise’s performance and the film’s intense fight sequences.
The resurgence of interest in the franchise is not solely due to Cruise. Prime Video has developed a new Jack Reacher series, starring Alan Ritchson, whose physique closely matches the character’s description in the novels. With a fourth season already in production, the series has encouraged viewers to revisit the original films, further boosting their streaming popularity.
Cruise co-starred with Rosamund Pike in the original Jack Reacher and with Cobie Smulders in the sequel, while Ritchson stars alongside Willa Fitzgerald in the TV adaptation. Despite the films collectively earning $380 million at the box office, the series offers more depth to Lee Child’s story, keeping fans engaged and driving renewed interest in Cruise’s filmography.
