Tom Cruise has once again proven he’s not just an action star on screen but a real-life daredevil.
The 61-year-old Hollywood icon has officially earned a Guinness World Record for performing the most burning parachute jumps by an individual, completing the death-defying feat 16 times during the filming of the upcoming movie Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
The record-breaking stunt was performed as part of the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, which Cruise has led since its debut in 1996. Known for performing his own stunts, Cruise took things to new heights—literally—with a flaming parachute strapped to his back.
“Tom doesn’t just play action heroes – he is an action hero!” said Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, in a statement on Thursday. “A large part of his success can be chalked up to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading man can do. It’s an honour to be able to recognize his utter fearlessness.”
A behind-the-scenes video, shared on Paramount Pictures’ official YouTube channel, captures Cruise working with stunt coordinators as he carefully plans the jumps. In one clip, he explains, “If this is twisted while it’s burning, I am going to be spinning and burnt.” Despite the danger, Tom Cruise insisted, “We don’t take risks… obviously,” before smirking to the camera.
The dramatic footage shows Tom Cruise leaping out of a helicopter 16 times with his parachute engulfed in flames, all set to the iconic Mission: Impossible theme song.
This latest stunt adds to Tom Cruise’s long list of on-screen achievements, including high-speed chases, cliff climbs, and jet stunts. His fearless dedication continues to raise the bar for action filmmaking.
As Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning nears release, Tom Cruise’s world-record stunt is already generating massive buzz—reaffirming his legendary status as one of Hollywood’s most committed action stars.
